The Air Force Weather Agency Headquarters supports a staff of over 800 employees and a mission to provide weather related products (weather models and forecasts) to all Army and Air Force units world-wide.
One of the primary goals of the design of this facility was to provide a mechanical system that could adapt to “building churn”. Building churn is the reconfiguration of the office spaces as people and departments move or change. The Under Floor Air Distribution (UFAD) system was the best option for this facility.
The design of this facility certified it at the Gold level under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) guidelines as directed by the U.S. Green Building Council. The mechanical design received LEED® points in the Water Efficiency, Energy & Atmosphere, and Indoor Environmental categories.
